On a mission of growing the circular economy of EV batteries

2019
By early 2019 the recovery and production process had been proven in laboratory conditions. During the summer of 2019 the process of proving the concept commercially began, and a UK centre for sampling, consolidating and preparing charged (‘wet’) materials was established.

2020
The commercial pilot successfully perfected the process throughput of input materials and the output products.  Critically, the process also allowed the separation process to be perfected, to ensure the materials produced were of the right purity. A fully operational facility for processing uncharged (‘dry’) materials began, with a processing capacity in excess of 12,000 metric tonnes (MT).

2021
With the commercial facility now proven and operational, the first contracts for input materials were put in place with  the focus on contracting with major Lithium-ion battery manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).  This was an important foundational stage, establishing reliability as a purchaser, processor and supplier of both materials and products with a global reach.

2022
A new UK site was acquired at Weston-Super-Mare, and construction completed on a new purpose-built facility (capacity of 50,000 MT per year) for processing both wet and dry materials. The site and facility were built to ensure security, safe storage of materials awaiting processing  and efficient processing (including logistics). New machinery installed for processing represented a new generation of development.  This site is Storm Energia’s global centre of excellence, providing a reference facility for others Storm Energia and partner operated storage and processing facilities.  Innovation continues on process and output improvement. 

2023
New global facilities being rolled out across Europe, North America and Asia, offering a fully integrated process for all Lithium-ion battery materials, producing metals and Storm Black (high purity) black mass with increasing processing capacity over 100,000 MT per year.
